Al Gore Declares War on Canada

Gore blasts Canada's greenhouse-gas plan

Al Gore lashed out at Canada for proposing to reduce greenhouse gases 20% by 2020, an aggressive target by any measure. Except not for Al, he wants them to reduce the emissions by 20% over 1990 figures, as outlined in the Kyoto Treaty.

So instead of lauding Canada for such an aggressive target, he wants them to throw away the last 16 years of progress.

This highlights 2 facts. 1: Canada, like most western nations, have worked feverously to reduce air pollution since 1990. And 2: The liberal environmental lobby want what they want and will not compromise. The Global Warming/Climate Change cult want everyone to see things exactly as they do or you will be labeled obstructionists or deniers.

Al Gore was VP from 2003 until 2001, in those 8 years of his tenure in office the US did not ratify the Kyoto accord; he cannot deny his role in not doing anything about greenhouse gases.

Why I support E85 and biofuels

While I often criticize corn ethanol I want to make clear that I am a proponent of the E85 and bio-fuel revolution that is going on. But I have to make very clear that it has nothing to do with the benefits to the environment.

By increasing use of bio-fuels, either bio-diesel (from soya, not from used fryer oil) or E85 that will extend the petroleum reserves that the world has. That will mean that crude petroleum will be around for many generations more.

But on a more economic level it will increase our ability to be energy independent. Although that is only possible if the tree hugging environmentalists (funded mostly - ironically- by petroleum dollars) permit the building of new nuclear power plants so we can close the less efficient coal and gas plants. I know a good portion of our wealth is based on petro dollars, but not as much as we send to OPEC countries that we never see again.

Look at Brazil. They should be the most bankrupt, third world nation. But they developed ethanol as their primary fuel, and with their limited oil reserves are virtually energy independent. That makes them able to be a net exporter of fuel by selling ethanol. That means money which helps their beleaguered economy. BONUS: Chavez is threatening... I mean trying to convince... his South American neighbors that they shouldn't try to make money by refining ethanol and become less dependent on him and his cheap oil because they see the money to be made in ethanol. Brazil has got Chavez' panties in a knot because he doesn't have the same influence over Brazil as the other SA countries.

We could still import up to 50% of our decreased oil needs and still have our reserves as well as our coal and shale reserves. Since the break even point on coal cracking is around $65 dollars a barrel and shale at around $75 our decrease in the demand for imported OPEC oil should increase the cost to make it economical to supplement our reserves with coal and shale. Especially if we stop using so much coal for electrical generation. (If we stop buying as much oil they will decrease production and increase prices to keep up their income).

So if you want to talk about bio-fuels as a means to becoming energy independent or even as a means to subsidize farmers by creating a demand for growing crops to be used for ethanol I'm all ears. But to perpetuate the myth that E85 is a green fuel is wrong and I will not let it rest unchallenged. Ethanol is not clean form of energy, it creates a lot carbon dioxide, VOCs and HAPs at the distilling phase and other pollutants when burned. So widespread use will increase ground level ozone and negatively affect air quality in warm weather.

E85 is an alternate fuel, but just because it is "renewable" doesn't make it green.

Haven't we heard this before?

The Global Warming cultists... oops, I'm sorry Mr Gore, the UN has decided to call it Climate Change now... proving that even they know rational people regard Global Warming as unmitigated bullshit.

The Climate Change Cult has adopted a strategy that I recall sweeping fear into the country a scant few years ago... that is the phenomenon known as Y2K. Wild ass assumptions backed up with little data and spread like wild fire by the Bad New Press. The media, in the desire to "scoop" the competition in the "disaster of the day" category, love to sensationalize issues... the end of the earth as we know it is a great story, so I can't fault them for wanting a piece of the action. (Instead I fault them for not owning up to being the very same tabloids they regard with such disdain.) When I see reports like these...
... I am appalled they think I am so gullible as to not know they are peddling cow pies.
You all remember Y2K... at 12 midnight on January 1, 2000 the world's computers would fail to recognize the six numeral date 01/01/00 and confuse 01/01/2000 with 01/01/1900. Bank balances would disappear, planes would fall from the sky, nuclear power plants would go "China Syndrome", all utilities would fail (no telephone, electric, water, gas, etc), our ability to launch nukes would disappear so the Chinese or Russians would be able to invade us ... and the list of disasters predicted went on and on.
Instead of being Prophets of Hope trying to save us from our shortsightedness they are Profits of Doom, cashing in on our fears (and we're talking a lot of cash) with Climate Change / Global Warming.
All sane people know we have been abusing our environment. But not a single shred of evidence can be produced to say any one of the environmental issues... including sun activity... are to blame. There is deforestation, greenhouse gases, pollution, sun activity, urbanization, combinations of factors... there are literally dozens of reasons why this could be occurring.
But real science, not bullshit like buying carbon credits, is what is going to be able to explore the reality of the situation so we can make informed decisions on what, if any, actions to take. But the Profits of Doom buy bad science that supports their theories, tailored to have cataclysmic results so the media is guaranteed to sell it.
I also remember 1976, not just for being the bicentenial of our country, but they gloom and doom predictions of the impending Ice Age. Now it's global warming.

Why can't Johnny read?

Many of my friends who attended public schools do not have the ability to think abstractly, or even I will venture to say, correctly. They are the same people who flock to their televisions every night at 11 o’clock to watch the news. They are the ones who when they hear of Nancy Pelosi in Syria and think “at least she’s talking to them”, instead of asking “why she is kissing up to terrorists”. They are the ones who saw “An Inconvenient Truth” and believed it, making it impossible to have a conversation about global warming with them because they only know what they saw in the movie or heard on TV news.

These are the same people who use only politically correct terms when discussing various minority groups, but have no problem dismissing most Bush policies as benefiting “white men”. They talk about Bush being the biggest failure in the history of the US, but don’t know how he has also piloted the most successful economy in the history of the US. They talk about Bush’s tax cuts benefiting the super rich and corporations, and accuse him of doing nothing for the poor, but they don’t seem to know that Bush has increased spending on social services and entitlements.

So get me fitted for my tin foil hat (again) because here is my latest conspiracy theory: public education, a widely recognized liberal institution, has as one’s of it’s goals, the prevention of education. Johnny can’t read and that is fine with the left, the dumber he is the more Johnny will rely on the evening news for information and entitlements to keep him dependent upon the government. Johnny will never figure out that the left maintains control not by trying to end racism and bring harmony (despite what generations of leftists say) they instead break groups into small groups and practice a divide and conquer tactic towards winning the hearts and what is left of the minds of those who survived the public education system.

DISCLAIMER: I am not saying all teachers suck. I know there are good teachers and even some good school systems, but they are statistically insignificant and don’t disprove my theory. But more importantly, please don’t get offended if you are one of the good teachers out there. There are good teachers and they deserve our admiration, unless they support tenure, but that is another blog for another day.

No Child Left Behind and any other standardized method of checking for competency in education breeds a district-wide policy of coaching children to pass the standardized proficiency tests, but does not check to see if Johnny can really read or write except just enough to pass the test. And the system certainly doesn’t care if Johnny can think, as a matter of fact the less Johnny can see how the left is operating the better.

Why Minnesota?

Minnesota is inhabited with warm, friendly people. The type that would do anything to help a neighbor in need, even if that meant they had to do without, because they know that if the roles were reversed it would be their neighbor helping them.
And then the influx of Muslims to the Twin Cities occurred. Slowly at first and then a larger migration of Somali refugees in the 1990’s got a foothold. Now, as is typical with a large immigrant population, it draws more immigrants so when they come to the US they can be with their own kind. I'm sure it's just a coincidence Minneapolis-St Paul has gone from one of the most desirable urban areas in which to reside to one of the highest crime rates in the country.
What is unusual is that these immigrant groups do not want to assimilate to the US culture… they are demanding the US adapt to their ways. First, the Muslim taxi drivers refuse to pick up passengers carrying alcohol, as they see it as an affront to Islam. (Consuming alcohol is against Islam, but then again so is being rude and unwelcoming to strangers, as charity and hospitality are tenets of Islam, but they apparently didn’t get to that part of the Koran.) Next came the Target cashiers who refuse to scan pork products because Islam considers pork products to be “unclean”. When Target began reassigning cashiers t other jobs they were threatened with lawsuits protecting the rights of their employees, so now if you’re a customer with pork products you may be asked to scan them yourself.
Then we have the infamous Imams. They were thrown from the US Air flight because they were praying loudly in the pre-boarding area and once on the plane sat separately, continued to roam around the cabin and asked for seatbelt extenders even though none weighed more than 200 pounds and the seat belts fit a 46 or 48 inch waist… you know the story. The Imams, all well respected members of Phoenix’s Muslim community – which has a very large Muslim population –, immediately held a news conference protesting their treatment. Amazingly, CAIR and the local media were on hand instantly. US Airways quickly apologized to the Imams but stood up for the pilot who threw them from the plane because their behavior was suspicious.
The Imams flew home to Phoenix the next day, and several days later flew to Washington DC to hold a protest at the US Airways ticket counter, denouncing the treatment of Muslims by the airline. The fact buried by the left wing media is that US Air no longer had their HQ in Washington DC, in 2005 US Airways merged with America West and moved to the Air West HQ… located in Phoenix. So why would the Imams, all community leaders in Phoenix, fly across the country to have a protest against a company located in their own city?
The media is one reason. The DC media is far more liberal and likely to not scrutinize the actions of the Imams, lest they risk offending them, plus they were virtually guaranteed national coverage. Whereas, the Phoenix media may not spin the story the ways the Imams want it and may not get the national attention.
The second reason is the people. In DC the people are used to such inconveniences and will just take it in stride. In Phoenix the more conservative citizenry might come around to protest their protest, and in Phoenix, unlike Washington DC, they recognize the Second Amendment to the constitution; people not only carry guns, but are encouraged to do so. The citizens and law enforcement in Phoenix, have a pretty libertarian “live and let live as long as you’re not breaking the law” philosophy, but may have objected to the Imams forcing their beliefs on others. Plus if they draw attention to themselves in Phoenix they might replace Mexicans as the people hated most. And the whole angle that the passengers who pointed out the suspicious behavior are being victimized runs counter to the "hang 'em high" vigilante tradition of the old west.
So to wrap things up, they choose Minnesota to be loud and force their beliefs on others by such actions as having the technical school to install a foot washing station so Muslims can hold their ritual washing, they try to force people to not bring alcohol into their cabs, and they refuse to serve customers even though they took jobs in a customer service field, because the people will not object to it, it is not in a Minnesotan's nature to be confrontational. But they fly across the country to hold their protest against US Airways, because aside from the media aspect, the people of Phoenix are not docile and will not be party to the birth of the Islamic States of America.
