Tonight is the much anticipated "Beer Summit."
I have been fighting bouts of nausea every time I hear yet another leftard pundit or talking head comment on how "smart" a move this was on the part of Obama. And yet they seem to overlook that had he stuck to his TelePrompter there would be no need for a beer summit. He could have sat quietly by as Gates and Crowley slugged it out in court... one suing for false arrest and violation of civil rights, the other counter-suing for slander. The smart money would be backing Crowley.
But just as Gates made the issue one of race instead of thanking the office for quickly responding to the neighbor's report of a burglary the Harvard professor instead made race an issue. And as a professional race baiter he brought Crowley's mother into the argument in an effort to elicit a more visceral response from the seasoned police office.
Instead Gates was disappointed because all he got out of it was a trip to the Cambridge jail.
But Obama, who earned his stripes in Chicago as a community organizer, which also entails race baiting (the class warfare aspect doesn't come into play as Gates earns considerably more than Sgt Crowley), had to comment on the situation. Even though by the time Obama was first asked about it the charges against Gates had been dropped he just couldn't help himself, decades of this response against the police naturally surfaced and even though he freely admitted he did not know the facts he accused the police of acting stupidly. Then a few hours later talked about what a great cop Crowley is.
And from that moment on the previous 59 minutes of lies and platitudes concerning nationalized health care were forgotten by the few people watching the press conference. Obama, like Gates, reverted to form and reacted as they knew how, by ratcheting up racial tensions, not trying to resolve them.
So in order to try to save face and prevent Sgt Crowley from suing Professor Gates, or just hope everyone looks at the staged pictures of the three men smiling in the pre-event photo op, Obama called the Beer Summit.
My prediction for what will be accomplished?
Nothing.
Little of substance will be discussed because Gates thinks he is right, Obama is too arrogant to admit he is wrong, and Crowley is looking at a nice slander settlement to retire on so he will not want to say anything that could jeopardize his legal standing.
Instead the men will talk about nothing. Perhaps a neutral party has fed Obama with an exit strategy where they can say they admit tempers flared but that, somehow, all men will be found to be right... in their own way.
The only thing I am hopeful for is that after tomorrow's recanting of how the men exited the room arm in arm singing Kumbaya that it will be the last we will hear about it.
The leftard media and the constant spin trying to prove Obama and Gates reacted as they did because they "experienced" things as African Americans... and yet not mentioning one of the things Obama experienced was hundreds of dollars of parking tickets he had outstanding in Cambridge that he only paid when he announced his candidacy. Likewise the media is hiding that Sgt Crowley teaches racial sensitivity and how to avoid making decisions on racial lines at the police academy.
